This MD Anderson pilot studied intravenous bevacizumab for neoplastic meningitis—cancer involving the membranes and fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. The phase I/II, single-arm record lists 20 actual participants, compared with a plan to enroll up to 25, and a completed status in its December 2020 update. 12

Treatment was administered every two weeks. Eligible primary cancers included breast cancer, lung cancer, and melanoma. Main measures included clearance of malignant cells from cerebrospinal fluid and time to neurological progression; imaging, survival, quality of life, and biological markers were also investigated. 12

The registry now has posted results. Its cerebrospinal-fluid outcome includes 15 analyzed participants and reports 93% positive for tumor cells; that is not a 93% tumor-clearance rate. It reports a median time to progression of three weeks in the analyzed group. The exact outcome wording and missing comparator limit what those figures establish. A separate case report mentioning this identifier is not the trial’s outcome report, and this uncontrolled pilot cannot establish superiority over another treatment. 12
