NCT00857207 is a VA study of metacognitive/Goal Management Training after blast-related traumatic brain injury. The completed registration records 51 actual participants and compares structured strategy training with a Brain Health Workshop. Training targets planning, breaking tasks into steps, monitoring distractions and applying strategies to everyday goals. Outcomes include computerized Tower of London performance and BRIEF-A executive-function ratings. 12
A related original 2023 paper, funded under VA award B0902-W, reports a smaller uncontrolled group: 14 participants completed training, with improvements in selected executive-function and participation measures. However, it does not identify NCT00857207 in its text, and its design and denominator are not the registered 51-person comparison. 3
The registry now posts results for the registered study. Its primary computerized Tower of London measure reports average completion time changing from 24.6 to 21.7 seconds for 14 analyzed training participants, and from 25.1 to 24.7 seconds for three analyzed workshop participants. Those very small, uneven analyzed groups do not support a robust comparative conclusion. The related 2023 paper remains separately labeled: its 14-person before/after results are not substituted for the registered comparison. 23
