NCT00780299 is HYPERDIA, a randomized trial of high-cutoff continuous venovenous hemodialysis for post-cardiac-arrest shock. The rationale was removal of circulating inflammatory mediators in patients with severe post-resuscitation circulatory failure. This is different from routine dialysis for chronic kidney failure. 12
The original 2019 Resuscitation report is a direct results resource. Its conclusion is negative: the high-cutoff dialysis strategy did not shorten post-resuscitation shock or improve the measured hemodynamic course. The article evaluates vasopressor dependence and other clinical outcomes rather than merely whether a membrane can remove molecules. 3
Accordingly, the biological rationale did not translate into a demonstrated circulatory benefit in this trial. The study was small, so a nonsignificant result should not be interpreted as precise proof that every possible effect is zero. Conversely, laboratory plausibility is not evidence of improved survival or faster recovery. 3
