Study: Plasma and intracellular pharmacokinetics of nucleoside antiretrovirals with tenofovir in people with HIV, at Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital, Barcelona. 1 2

Design and measurements: This phase IV study records 32 actual participants. It examined drug levels involving lamivudine or abacavir and tenofovir, comparing measurements before and four weeks after protocol-supervised interruption of tenofovir within specified antiretroviral regimens. This was not a proposal to stop all HIV therapy. 1 2

What is established: The historical record is completed, with a September 2008 update. No numerical pharmacokinetic interaction, virologic outcome, or comparative long-term clinical benefit was verified.
